How to Become Nothing and Find Yourself

Dear spiritual seeker,

How many people know the real you? Who is the real you? How well do you really know yourself?

So many people these days are struggling with their identity and with being authentic, not feeling like they fit in and maybe being afraid to be themselves or even to know who they are. If you’re searching for your true essence and are feeling lost in this noisy world, just stop for a second… Stop trying, stop searching, stop journaling, stop thinking: It’s time to become nothing.

It’s the easiest thing in the world… and it will help you find yourself.

Why? Well, the reason you can’t quite pinpoint your true essence or identity by looking at this noisy world and trying to figure out where you fit in, is because you are so much bigger than that. At your core, you are infinite. You are immortal. There are no limits to who you are. I really want you to take that in.

You are free beyond bounds… and I want you to claim that. That’s why you’ll hear me talk about being rebellious souls or rewilding our souls: Because when we go back to our true nature, we realize we are infinitely powerful, infinitely compassionate and infinitely wise and are not separate from the divine source of all things that exist. When we break free from the confines of what we believe about ourselves, we lose all of our ideas and everything we thought we knew…  and come to know that we are truth itself.

Our essence is pure consciousness, unbounded and free.

What happens when you realize this? You have unshakeable confidence. You stop striving and fighting and resisting and start to relax. You start to trust yourself and the divine. And you embrace stillness.

So how do you get to this place of quiet certainty? Well, actually there’s nowhere to go. Instead, you stop, you become still, and you lean back and let yourself fall backwards into the luminous void.

THE LUMINOUS VOID

Let me tell you a story.

About a decade ago, when I was just a few years into my path of awakening, I started having lucid dreams where I would realize I was dreaming and could control the dream. Each time, I enthusiastically informed my dreamscape that I wanted to see the light of Source that was behind all things.

Instantly the images, objects and beings in the dream began to dissolve into light. It looked exactly like those old filmstrips that used to overheat and burn through in the light of the projector that was beaming the images onto the screen on the other side of the room.

What was left was a light so bright it was blinding, and each time I was thrown out of the dream with a jolt. My ego wasn’t ready, it probably thought it was going to die, so it resisted. And yes, your old identity and ideas about yourself as a small, powerless, little human will have to dissolve in the blinding light of pure awareness so that you can embody your true unbounded divine essence.

When you do that, you won’t cease to exist, but rather you’ll live life in the flow state, where your intuition guides you and divine Source energy is just streaming through you. You’ll feel connected and powerful and you’ll integrate all parts of yourself, the light and the dark, and you’ll finally know peace.

At this point, I can enter the void at will because I feel it in my bones. I have befriended stillness. Challenges still come up in my life but they no longer feel like the end of the world. Whenever I start to lose myself, I return to the luminous void. In becoming nothing, I find that I am infinite and free beyond bounds.

LIGHT WITHOUT A SOURCE

Words will never suffice to describe the Source from which we have all come, that infinite ocean of un-realized possibilities that is pure consciousness itself. Seen from within the universe, which is full of movement, light and energy, the Source field appears as a black void. But when witnessed from within the void itself, it appears full of light – light without a source, unmoving, perfectly still but full of enough creative potential to generate an infinity of universes simply out of the desire to see itself.

Tibetan Buddhists call this the Ösel or the ‘clear light’.

الـنـور الأسـود

Sufis call it the Nur al-Aswad, the ‘dazzling darkness’ or ‘black light’.

בוצינא דקרדינותא

The Zohar mentions the Botzina de Kardanuta – the ‘lamp of darkness’ that glows in the heart of the Ein Sof, the infinite.

Medieval and Renaissance mystics in Germany spoke of the überhelle Nacht, or the ‘super-bright night.’

And quantum physics calls it the zero-point field, in which particles are continuously created and destroyed in the eternal fullness of potential electro-magnetic energy, existing in superposition in multiple states simultaneously until observation collapses them into a single reality.

The physics now mirrors the mystics, who describe the void as a state where the duality of light and dark hasn’t yet collapsed into either one.

And what the scientists will someday find is that their “dark matter” is really consciousness.

FALLING BACKWARDS

To reach the void, we will not seek or strive but rather lean back, that is, fall backwards into the blinding light of pure Source consciousness. We get there through gentleness, through stillness.

In the clear light of stillness, the body, mind and heart know how to heal themselves. There, we allow the layers of trauma, egoic structure and form to dissolve in the light of awareness, and find that more of our divinity is shining through our being, and that we are in the flow of peace and equanimity all day, no matter what happens.

My goal is to offer you direct experiences to empower you, so I’ve recorded a meditation to guide you gently into that luminous expanse:

May it bring you the peace that is yours. May you become nothing and find yourself.
